August 30, 2008 UPDATES
ON
P.O. ROBERT "BOBBY' LAWRENCE
RET. P.O. ED MERRILL, RET. P.O. FRANK WAKELY
RET. DET. FREDDIE MACK & RET. DET. LOU BARTOLOMEO |
We wish to thank Alex Gilchrist and Lou
Hollander for sending the following information:
I just spoke to Pamela Lawrence, Bob's
daughter. She said that Bob underwent the operation
yesterday. She is not sure if he will be returning to his
room or going to rehabilitation. Bob has difficulty
remembering, and it frustrates him. She will let us know
when and where he will be going. If you wish to speak to
Pamela, her phone # 516-771-9807. She would like to hear
from you.
Bob's daughter Pamela said that he has
been moved to a different room. Section 1B room125. His new
phone #516-256-6964. Pamela said don't be alarmed if he
doesn't answer immediately. She said that Bob has also a
touch of Emphysema.
Just to let all know, Ed Merrill
had a bit of a setback having another episode of congested
heart failure. He is doing better again, but it was a
pretty bad experience for all of us. We were three days
on a cruise from NY to Caribbean when Ed took ill. After
staying in the ship hospital for 7 hrs until it docked in
PR, Ed was taken to PR hospital where he stayed for four
days. Lucky for us, David, our son, flew to join us to
help with among other things, his knowledge of Spanish.

Here is an e-mail I received from
Frank Wakely
Lou,
I had the intention of driving over to
the reunion on Saturday. My plans got changed on Friday,
with my heart going flip-flop; something they call A
Fib, or atriel fibulation (or something close to that).
I wound up in JFK Medical Center, in Lake
Worth. I just got out after six days (today), and they
jumped started my heart (yesterday). Right now, my heart
is working fine (Sinus Rhythm). I am in a great deal of
discomfort due to a pain in my neck, not related to the
jump starting. I don't know how I got, or when it will
go away. Right now they gave me pain pills, with no
explanation has to why the neck was stressed out. I am
sorry I missed out on the reunion.
I hope that the reunion went well. If
success is measured by the effort you put in to
something, then I am sure it was successful.
Regards,
Frank Wakely
Frank would love to hear from some of his
friends.

Freddy Mack
just had a partial knee replacement this past Tuesday.
I went to see Freddy Wednesday night at the hospital.
He said the operation went well but he had some
discomfort. They had him up walking a bit that day. He
was moved today to a rehab center in Palm Harbor, where
he expect to be for about 2 weeks. Knowing Freddy, I
can see them kicking his ass out of there before his 2
weeks is up. Here is the contact info for Freddy.

You can e-mail Freddy at

Susan will bring all the e-mails to the Rehab center.
He is in a private room. His phone # there is
727-789-8162. As of now he don't know what kind of a
schedule he will be on, so if you call and he don't pick
up the phone after 4 or 5 rings he is probably doing
therapy. He would love hearing from you.
I had just recently heard from
Chuck Berl's sister Janet, that Chuck's
son Bobby had wrote a tribute to his father and posted
it on the St's Jude's Hospital web site. It was a very
nice tribute to Chuck. If you would like to see it go
to

If you like you can sign a guest book on the site which
I am sure the family would appreciate.
Ret. Det, Lou Bartolomeo recently
underwent cancer surgery ( July 8th ) of the
bladder and was also diagnosed with hypertension
and recently got back blood results showing that his
kidneys are not getting enough blood. His white blood
cell count is high which is an indication that his
body is fighting something of what they don't know
yet. For anyone who wants to send a card or contact
Lou, his address is 13541 Fountainview Blvd
Wellington, FL 33414, cell# is 561 503-8122, his

P.O. JIMMY SEALS |
|
 |
We wish to thank Lou Hollander for
sending this information:
Jimmy Seals had
open heart surgery on July 9th, and had two valves
repaired. All is well now and he'll be out of commission
for about another ten weeks. He went into surgery at about
3:00 pm on the 9th and didn't wake up till almost 6:00pm the
next day.
He came home on the 22nd. He is now up,
walking, eating well, and sleeping like a baby. The good
thing about his surgery was the Doctor was able to repair
both valves, which means he will be off all the meds Feb
01st.
I am sure Jimmy would love to hear from you.
His e-mail address is
Klaatu327@aol.com 574-522-3005
I had the pleasure of working with Jimmy in Dist. 34.
Our best wishes for a speedy recovery so Jim can get back on
the road again. - Tony

P.O. LENNY LANYO |
|
Yesterday, I spoke to Ret. P.O. Lenny Lanyo,
with whom I worked in District 34 for a number of years before
he retired in 1980 to start a new career. Lenny is
suffering from neck and oral cancer and the current prognosis
is not very good. Despite this, he is totally upbeat
about his life and is living each day to its fullest. During
the term of his illness, Lenny became a member of a support
team aiding other people who have come down with this tragic
disease. The name of the group is
SPOHNC which stands for Support for Persons
with Oral, Head and Neck Cancer and is a
patient-directed, self-help organization dedicated to meeting
the needs of oral and head and neck cancer patients. SPOHNC,
founded in 1991 by an oral cancer survivor, addresses the
broad emotional, physical and humanistic needs of this
population. Their website is
http://www.spohnc.org or by phone at 516-759-5333.
Lenny has willingly given his time to many
people in the past several years and we applaud him for his
determination to help others while he is still on this earth
and able to do so. If you or a family member or friend
has come down with this form of cancer, Lenny will offer his
assistance to help the person understand the illness and its
treatment. Lenny can be contacted at 516-799-5455.
Please keep Lenny and his family in your
prayers - Tony |
